(chorus)
An important part of the constitution is
checks and balances, checks and balances.
Each branch of government limits powers of the others with
Each branch checks the powers of the other branch
to make sure the power is balanced
between them.
It’s the system of
checks and balances, checks and balances
(verse)
The process of how laws are made, for real.
The legislative branch votes on a bill.
The bill then goes to the executive branch,
where it is decided on by the President.
If the President thinks the bill is good for the country,
he signs it. Then the bill becomes a law.
If he doesn’t think the bill is good for the country,
it gets vetoed. That means no.
The legislative branch gets another chance
with enough votes that override the President.
Once a law is passed and placed in the system.
People can test it out through the court system.
If the legislative branch does not agree
with the way the judicial branch has interpreted the law,
they can introduce a new legislation
and start the process all over again.
